Physical complexity and microbial communities
Diverse microbial communities are found in abundance in a wide variety of environmental conditions. Both biotic and abiotic factors play a role in the diversity of these microbial communities (what species are present and in what abundance) and the functioning of these communities (the processes that these species perform). One important abiotic driver of microbial community diversity is the physical complexity of the environment.
My research seeks to understand how the physical environment shapes microbial community composition, function, and stability. |
